WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER?

The 21st CCLC initiative is a key federal funding source supporting school-community partnerships that provide quality afterschool and summer learning programs.

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) initiative is the only federal funding source dedicated to supporting local summer learning and 21st Century Community Learning Center funding is the sole federal funding source for afterschool programs across the United States. Each state is awarded so many dollars of funding, which then passes down in the form of grant awards to applying organizations and school districts.  Typically, a school district will apply for these funds to implement an enhanced afterschool program.  In other situations, and as is with ours, non-profit organizations may also apply and work together with a school district to provide a program.  We were very pleased to learn our grant was accepted in October 24, 2021 and we were awarded funding for the next 5 years to enhance PowerUP! afterschool.

What does that mean for our program?  This grant allows us to add additional part-time staff, which in turn paves the way for more children to attend our program. In addition, the money will be used for added technology and resources in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It is important to remember this grant is for programmatic spending only, which means NMCYF still greatly appreciates and needs the support of our community to meet in-direct and operating expenses.  As always, we welcome volunteers and visitors to our program. Covid-19 restrictions may apply during this time. Please feel free to contact us about volunteering or visiting our center prior to access the Covid-19 guidelines.
